Who Won Yesterday's IPL Match 66, PBKS vs DC: In a thrilling encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, the 66th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 saw Delhi Capitals edge out Punjab Kings in a nail-biting contest on May 24.
The Delhi Capitals, chasing a challenging target of 207 runs set by Punjab Kings, managed to cross the line with four balls to spare, winning by six wickets. The match was an explosive display of power-hitting and strategic bowling, with both teams showing moments of brilliance.

From Marcus Stoinis's electrifying cameo for Punjab to Sameer Rizvi's match-winning knock for Delhi, this match had it all — thrilling boundaries, key wickets, and tactical plays that kept fans on the edge of their seats. The toss proved pivotal as Delhi Capitals, led by Faf du Plessis, won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Punjab Kings, captained by Shreyas Iyer, came out firing in their innings, amassing a formidable 206 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. The pitch at Jaipur offered some variable bounce, but the batsmen from both sides adapted superbly. Delhi’s bowlers tried to maintain control, but the Punjab batting lineup managed to keep the scoreboard ticking with timely boundaries and sixes. However, it was Delhi’s chase that stole the limelight, with Sameer Rizvi’s blistering innings of 58 runs off just 25 balls earning him the Player of the Match award and sealing the Capitals’ victory.
Punjab Kings started steadily, but lost an early wicket with Priyansh Arya falling cheaply. Josh Inglis and Prabhsimran Singh steadied the ship with quickfire contributions of 32 and 28 respectively, but wickets kept falling at regular intervals. The highlight was Marcus Stoinis, who unleashed an incredible assault late in the innings, scoring 44 runs off just 16 balls at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 275.00. His innings was packed with big hits, which helped PBKS reach a competitive total of 206. Other notable contributions came from Shreyas Iyer (35 runs) and Nehal Wadhera (16 runs). Mustafizur Rahman was the standout bowler for Delhi, taking 3 wickets and exerting control at crucial stages.
Chasing 207 under lights is never easy, but Delhi Capitals showed composure and power. KL Rahul, surprisingly playing for DC after a bench role earlier, contributed a solid 35 runs, and Faf du Plessis added 23 runs before falling to Harpreet Brar. However, the innings really took off with Sameer Rizvi, who smashed 58 runs off 25 balls, including 5 towering sixes that earned him the Angel One Super Sixes award. Alongside him, Karun Nair (44 runs) and Sediqullah Atal (22 runs) kept the momentum going. The Capitals finished at 208 for 4 in 19.3 overs, sealing the win with six wickets in hand and three balls to spare. Mukesh Kumar impressed with his economy and patience, bowling 9 dot balls.
Each award came with a prize money of INR 1 lakh, celebrating the individual brilliance that lit up this high-stakes clash.
The turning point in the match came at 93/3, when Delhi Capitals appeared to be wobbling under pressure and Punjab Kings seemed poised to capitalize. However, the 62-run partnership between Karun Nair and Sameer Rizvi arrived at precisely the right moment, blending tactical intelligence with aggressive intent. Nair's experience complemented Rizvi's fearless hitting perfectly, enabling them to steadily increase the run rate while frustrating the PBKS bowlers. Their composed yet attacking approach not only kept the scoreboard ticking but also shifted the momentum firmly in Delhi's favor, effectively snatching control away from Punjab's grasp.
Even after Karun Nair's dismissal at 155/4, Sameer Rizvi found support in Tristan Stubbs, who played a calm and responsible innings of 18* off 14 balls to see Delhi home with three balls to spare. The foundations laid by the Nair-Rizvi partnership made the finish look comfortably within reach well before the final over. On the other hand, Punjab's bowling lacked the penetration needed during those crucial middle overs, with only Harpreet Brar showing threat with his 2/41. The failure to break the partnership proved costly, allowing Delhi Capitals to strengthen their playoff credentials and send a strong message to the league, with Rizvi's fearless, match-winning effort standing out as one of the season's finest individual performances.
Karun Nair, reflecting on his form and team performance, said:
"We truly deserve this. Yes we haven't been playing our best cricket in the last few games but today we brought it to the field and showed that we're a good team. I've been hitting the ball really well. Have come into this tournament with a lot of runs so the confidence is always there. It was showing in the nets as well. It was about giving myself an opportunity, playing a few balls. I thought I was a bit hurried in the few games I played. I was playing too many shots too early. Coaches spoke to me and said 'why don't you take some time and then go after the bowling'. Very grateful to get back into the team (talking about his selection in the Test squad). Really happy and proud. Was eagerly waiting for the news and got a lot of messages from my close ones. Have been batting well in the last 12-16 months. It's about keeping my processes the same and do the same things that have worked for me."
Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the challenge posed by the Delhi Capitals and spoke about the pitch and performance:
"It was a fantastic score. There was some odd and variable bounce. It was above-par. I think we weren't disciplined enough with our lengths. We went overboard with the bouncer. Couldn't hit the hard length. (on the IPL) It is bigger than the Premier League. You got to stay positive and calm. You come in with a fresh mindset on the next day. You have to stick to the present. We got to go back to the drawing board. We will look to come in with some strong plans. The finger (on injury concern) should be fine for the next game."
Sameer Rizvi, the Player of the Match, shared his joy after the game (translated from Hindi):
"It feels really good. The hard work I put in the last 2-3 months has paid off. I did not have the confidence before that I can play like this at this level, but after one innings, that came and now I feel I can do it. When I went in, more than 100 was needed, I looked at my first three-four balls and then played my shots."
Faf du Plessis gave insights into the team’s campaign and performance:
"It is really important. We wanted to finish top four, but finishing in top five was a fair reflection on us. (on where did the campaign go wrong for them) It's one of the great mysteries, we tried to answer that question a few times in the dressing room. Confidence, lack of runs, when you are playing well, you get to win the small margins. Every game that small window of 5-6 overs in batting and bowling and in a big tournament like that it cost us. IPL is all about young boys and domestic players, Vippy was amazing for us, not only with ball but bat as well, it's rare for a legspinner to be an allrounder. Two or three batters in that lineup, if they keep learning and improving, they can go a long way."
