Bengaluru, January 27: The IPL auction sprang some early surprises with Chennai Super Kings not opting to use the Right to Match (RTM) card for Ravichandran Aswhin as the India offie sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 7.6 crore.
Perhaps, they could have gone for R Ashwin if the price remained a bit less than the present bidding and after retaining three players - MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina - they have a limited purse to use as well.
"The auction is always a house of casino. I am happy that Kings XI will be my new home. Thank you so much Chennai Super Kings for the memories," tweeted Ashwin after bids for him were over.
Chris Gayle remaining unsold was not exactly a surprise considering his form and age. The Universe Boss may find a team later in the evening or on Sunday. But for now he has to wait.

Earlier, Gayle also had to clear his name from an alleged sexual abuse case filed by a Melbourne based woman. Gayle was playing in the Big Bash League that time.
