Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane has left the field in the ongoing IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.
The KKR captain had an issue in the 5th over of the match and has now subsequently left the pitch.

Just before the start of the 5th over, the KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane was suddenly left lying on the ground. The veteran Indian player had an issue and was addressed by the KKR Physio on the field. After that, he was struggling to even get up. But finally, as he got up, his movement was largely limited and in the end, Rahane was shouldered away from the ground.
It was thought as a cramp, but the issue may well be deeper. The KKR captain may have a hamstring issue, and if that's the case, his future this season will be a huge question mark. No official update has been made from KKR so far, but we are likely to get a clear update soon.
Rinku Singh is now the stand-in captain for Kolkata Knight Riders.
KKR delivered a formidable batting display, posting 220/4 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026 season opener at the high-scoring Wankhede Stadium on March 29. Opting to bat first after losing the toss, KKR capitalized on a batting-friendly pitch to set a daunting target of 221.
The innings got off to a blistering start with Finn Allen exploding for 37 off just 17 balls, smashing 6 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 217.64. He fell in the powerplay, but captain Ajinkya Rahane took charge, anchoring the middle phase with a composed yet aggressive 67 off 40 balls (3 fours, 5 sixes, SR 167.50). Rahane's innings provided stability while keeping the scoreboard ticking rapidly.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi, keeping wickets, played a fluent knock of 51 off 29 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes, SR 175.86), adding crucial momentum in the middle overs. Cameron Green contributed a quick 18 off 10 before Rinku Singh remained unbeaten on a handy 33 off 21 balls, ensuring a strong finish with some lusty blows.MI's bowling was led by Shardul Thakur, who claimed an impressive 3/39, dismissing Allen, Green, and Rahane. Hardik Pandya picked up one wicket.
Despite the fightback in the death overs, KKR's explosive top and middle order, combined with smart acceleration, left MI needing a record chase on a pitch that favored batters throughout. The total reflects KKR's depth and intent to start their campaign on a high note.
