Mitchell Starc has issued an apology to Delhi Capitals fans for missing the early phase of IPL 2026, while also strongly criticising what he described as "misinformed opinions" surrounding his absence.
The Australian fast bowler, who has been sidelined due to shoulder and elbow injuries, clarified that he remains committed to returning to the franchise as soon as he regains full fitness.

Starc's absence has been part of a broader issue affecting multiple franchises relying on Australian pacers, with several players missing the initial matches of the tournament due to injuries or workload management.
In a statement shared via social media, Starc expressed frustration with public commentary questioning his commitment.
"Despite the opinions and views of certain individuals with their platforms in and through the Indian media, I'm currently rehabbing and managing an injury in my shoulder and elbow, the extent of which I didn't know during the Australian summer," Starc wrote.
He added that several narratives circulating online were inaccurate and unfair.
"These individuals have made strong statements around involvement in the IPL and provided heavily misinformed opinions of players, preached them as facts, and claimed to know my body better than me," he said.
Despite defending himself against criticism, Starc acknowledged the impact his absence has had on his franchise.
"With that said, I do acknowledge this injury setback and that the timing is disruptive to the Delhi team, and I apologise for that and to the fans for not being available for the early part of this season," Starc stated.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to returning to action.
"I remain committed to joining Delhi Capitals, am in continual communication with the team, and will continue to do what I can to be available as soon as possible," he added.
Starc is not the only high-profile Australian quick missing early matches. Fellow pacers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins have also been unavailable for their respective teams due to injury-related issues.
The situation has sparked debate among fans, with some suggesting salary penalties for unavailable players - a suggestion that has drawn mixed reactions across the cricketing community.
The debate intensified further after Starc's wife, Alyssa Healy, responded to a fan who questioned Starc's absence.
"Probably because he's injured, mate. If he can't bowl, how's he supposed to play? If he was fully fit, he'd be there," Healy replied, defending the fast bowler against criticism.
Starc's absence remains a significant setback for Delhi Capitals, who had counted on his experience to lead their bowling attack.
However, with rehabilitation underway and communication ongoing between player and franchise, Delhi Capitals supporters will hope the Australian quick returns soon to strengthen their campaign as the tournament progresses.
