Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has struggled to make their home venue a fortress whether it's in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or the Women's Premier League (WPL) as the Bengaluru-based side have lost more matches than what they have won at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Since the inception of the IPL in 2008, RCB men's team has failed to take advantage of home conditions. And now that record has been carried forward by the women's team in WPL.

Other successful teams like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made use of their home conditions by dominating the visiting teams. But RCB has had a mixed record on their home turf.
In a total of 87 IPL matches in Bengaluru, RCB has managed to win 43 and also lost as many matches with 1 match ending in a tie (RCB won via Super Over). In 9 WPL matches, Royal Challengers Bengaluru women have won only three and drew a blank in the most recent season in 2025.
Although their win rate was below 50 in the IPL, the Bengaluru-based side has managed to get their winning percentage to 50 in the men's game. However, their overall record (IPL and WPL) still stands at 48.96%.
Failing to take advantage of home conditions is one of the main reasons for Royal Challengers men's team to not go all the way and win the title. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru in fact lost one of their title clashes on their home turf against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016.
There are several factors why Royal Challengers Bengaluru has struggled to make the M Chinnaswamy Stadium a fortress over the years from making competitive wickets to assembling a capable bowling attack. Here is a look at why the Bengaluru teams have struggled at home over the years:
The pitches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium have been known as batter's paradise. Plus, the shorter boundaries on the square make it a graveyard for bowlers. Hence, defending even a score of above 200 has been challenging at the Bengaluru venue.
As the years progressed, the wickets may be mixed as they even provide assist to bowlers, but the shorter boundaries is not something that can be changed easily. These two factors even cost the opposing team. However, it has cost Royal Challengers more because of their flawed bowling attack.
RCB is known to load up their top order with superstar batters, hoping to win games by piling on big totals. But have often failed to address the bowling department, which is crucial to game across formats.
Batting greats like Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli and more broke several records with the bat, but at the other end, the Bengaluru side has had no real threat apart from Yuzvendra Chahal. Since the Indian leg-spinner, who has been the most successful bowler at the venue, RCB has struggled to fill the void.
The Bengaluru-based franchise's women's team had a mixed record in their title-winning season in 2024. And it was all down to their bowling group for the franchise to taste success. Having lost trio of the spinners from last season, RCB failed to land a single win in four games in 2025.
Even toss has proved crucial in matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as the chasing team has often had more success than the team setting a target in Bengaluru. This is another important reason why Royal Challengers Bengaluru has no real advantage of playing at home with toss reliant mostly on luck.
In T20 cricket, and especially at Chinnaswamy, winning the toss can be a significant advantage. Teams often prefer to chase, knowing that the pitch tends to remain good for batting throughout the game.
