West Indies registered the highest team score in the PowerPlay in T20 World Cup history during a Group C match against Afghanistan at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia on Tuesday (June 18).
After losing opener Brandon King in the second over, Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran combined to share a 50-run stand within 13 balls and later went on to post 92 runs in the first six overs.

With that, the duo broke the record for highest total in powerplay in T20 World Cup history, surpassing the previous best of 91 runs by Netherlands against Ireland in the 2014 edition at Sylhet. Here is a look at the top 5 highest powerplay totals in T20 World Cups:
While King added 7 off 6 balls before departing to Azmatullah Omarzai, Charles (35 off 19 balls) and Pooran (36 off 13 balls) took the Afgahnistan bowling attack apart in the next four overs.
The duo had smashed 12 fours and 3 sixes during their onslaught after King had hit 1 four in his knock. Charles and Pooran also added Omarzai in an unwanted list as the Afghanistan all-rounder registered the joint most expensive over in T20 World Cup history.
By conceding 36 runs in a single over, Omarzai became the second bowler after former England pacer Stuart Broad to concede as many runs in a over at the show-piece tournament.
Broad was at the wrong end of an onslaught from former India batter Yuvraj Singh in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, when the southpaw hit the English pacer for 6 sixes in a over.
Broad held the record for most runs conceded in a over in T20 World Cup untll Omarzai joined him in the books following an onslaught from Pooran and Charles in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
This time though, it was not 6 sixes, but Omarzai was hit for 3 fours and 3 sixes, including a wide four and a no ball to concede 36 runs in the fourth over of the West Indies innings. Here is a look at the most expensive overs in T20 World Cup history:
