WI vs ENG 3rd T20I: Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton Star as England Clinch Series Against West Indies

Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton starred with the ball as England claimed an unassailable 3-0 lead against West Indies following a 3-wicket victory in the 3rd T20I at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia on Friday (November 15).

After Saqib and Overton claimed three wickets each to restrict West Indies at 145/8 in their allotted 20 overs, Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone played crucial knocks to ensure England reached the target in the final over.

Batting at number 5 following, Curran scored 41 off 26 balls, while Livingstone, who survived three dropped catches, punished the Windies with a 28-ball 39. Will Jacks also made a telling contribution of 32 from 33 balls after England lost three wickets inside powerplay.

For West Indies, spinner Akeal Hosein finished the top wicket-taker with figures of 4 for 21 in his four overs. A returning Alzarri Joseph finished on the expensive side despite claiming a wicket in his first spell.

Gudakesh Motie and Terrance Hinds also claimed a wicket each in a losing cause for the home side. This result marked England's first T20I series win in West Indies since 2019 after losing on their two previous visits in 2022 and 2023.

After delayed started due to rain, England seemed on course to cruise to an unexpectedly comfortable series success when play did get under way, reducing the hosts to 37 for five as the West Indies top order again failed to deliver.

Pacer Saqib Mahmood did the early damage, removing Evin Lewis, Roston Chase and Shimron Hetmyer, while Jofra Archer also chipped in by dismissing the dangerous Nicholas Pooran, leaving the hosts reeling inside the powerplay.

A half-century from skipper Rovman Powell ensured West Indies could at least post a respectable 145 for eight from their 20 overs, a total England looked like they might struggle to chase down.

Wickets fell with regularity, but some late big hitting from Livingstone helped England seal a first white-ball series success in the Caribbean since 2019, with two more T20s still to come at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground this weekend.
