WI vs ENG: Alzarri Joseph Suspended by Cricket West Indies For On-Field Argument With Skipper Shai Hope

By MyKhel Staff

Alzarri Joseph has been suspended for two matches by Cricket West Indies (CWI) for his actions following an argument with skipper Shai Hope during the 3rd ODI against England on Wednesday (November 6) in Barbados.

Joseph has been reprimanded after his public disagreement with captain Hope over field placements. The incident happened when West Indies was bowling during the match, which the Caribbean side won by eight wickets to clinch the three-match series.

An angry Joseph stormed off the field in a remarkable protest over the field set by Hope during quick's second over. The captain and the pacer engaged in a lengthy argument before the fourth over and had to be urged by the umpires to resume play.

After a ball was played away on the off side during the over, Joseph remonstrated angrily with Hope and nothing changed despite a wicket a few deliveries later as the pacer was seen fuming.

And when the over ended Joseph left the field, returning after a short break, leaving West Indies with just 10-men on the field for at least on over as head coach Darren Sammy looked to calm him down.

Sammy had also said what Joseph did was unacceptable in the post-match presser. On Thursday (November 7), Cricket West Indies said in a statement Joseph's conduct fell short of CWI's "standards of professionalism."

"Alzarri's behavior did not align with the core values that Cricket West Indies upholds. Such conduct cannot be overlooked, and we have taken decisive action to ensure the gravity of the situation is fully acknowledged," said CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe.

Joseph also issued an apology. "I recognize that my passion got the best of me," Joseph was quoted as saying in the CWI statement. "I have personally apologized to captain Shai Hope and my teammates and management.

"I also extend my sincerest apologies to the West Indies fans - understand that even a brief lapse in judgment can have a far-reaching impact, and I deeply regret any disappointment caused."

England and the West Indies will next meet in a five-match Twenty20 series, which starts on Saturday (November 9) at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. West Indies is yet to announce their squad for the T20Is, but England will have their skipper Jos Buttler back.
