Shamar Joseph starred on his home Test debut as 17 wickets fell on day 1 of the second Test between West Indies and South Africa at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday (August 15).
Joseph (5 for 33) combined with fellow pacer Jayden Seales (3 for 45) for eight wickets to bundle South Africa for just 160, but the Windies top-order failed to capitalise and were reduced to 97/7 at stumps on the opening day.

From 56/6, all-rounder Jason Holder (33*) led a late fightback to take West Indies to 63 runs within the reach of South Africa's score from the first innings as Wiaan Mulder (4 for 18) ripped though the hosts batting line up.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss in the second match of the ICC World Test Championship series, South Africa were pegged back early after an inswinger cleaned up Tony de Zorzi in the fourth over.
Joseph soon removed Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma before also accounting for David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne and Keshav Maharaj to leave the visitors reeling at 88/7 in 30.3 overs. Seales and Holder also further dented the visitors fight.
Dane Piedt (38*) and Nandre Burger (23), however, showed some resistance to frustrate the hosts, taking the South Africa total past 150 before Gudakesh Motie ended the stand at 63 and the Proteas innings at 160.
Going in with a little momentum, South Africa struck in the second over of West Indies' response as Burger removed opener Mikyle Louis for a duck before Mulder went on a wicket-taking spree to remove Kraigg Brathwaite, Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge and Joshua Da Silva.
Burger (2 for 32) also dismissed Keacy Cartey, who was the only other home side batter to put up some resistance with 26 runs. Spinner Maharaj claimed the final wicket of the day by trapping fellow spinner Motie before the stumps.
