The echoes of India's 61-run thrashing of Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2026 Group A clash on February 15 in Colombo still resonate, but fans are already speculating that this iconic rivalry could ignite once more before the tournament concludes.
With India securing their Super 8 berth through this emphatic victory, the question of a rematch hinges on format intricacies, group dynamics, and Pakistan's slim survival hopes.

In the group stage, India and Pakistan were drawn together in Group A alongside the Netherlands, Namibia and USA, ensuring just one showdown. India's unbeaten run-three wins from three-has them topped with six points and a superior net run rate, making them the first qualifiers from the pool.
Pakistan, however, sit third with two wins and one defeat, their NRR plummeting to negative after the Colombo collapse. To sneak into the Super 8 stages, Pakistan will have to beat Namibia in their final group stage match.
The Super 8 phase, comprising two groups of four teams each, follows a round-robin format where the top two from every group stage advance.
Crucially, the seeding system separates runners-up from winners: Group 1 will feature the Group A winner (India), Group B runner-up, Group C winner, and Group D runner-up; Group 2 gets the reverses. If Pakistan qualifies as A2, they'll land in Group 2, opposite India's Group 1.
Thus, a Super 8 encounter is off the table-unlike the 2022 edition where cross-group clashes were possible under different rules. That leaves the knockout stages as the only avenue for another India-Pakistan thriller. The top two from each Super 8 group progress to the semifinals on February 28 in Mumbai and Kolkata or Colombo.
A semifinal clash would require India to top Group 1 and Pakistan to finish second in Group 2 (or vice versa), pitting them on March 1. The match, if Pakistan qualifies, will be played in Colombo. Similarly, if these two arch-rivals meet in the Final, the match will be played in Colombo.
