Fast bowler Haris Rauf is cautiously progressing towards a comeback, having resumed bowling in the nets three days ago. This update was shared by fellow teammate Shaheen Afridi during a post-match show after the fifth T20I match between Pakistan and New Zealand.
Shaheen Afridi, who won man of the series after helping Pakistan level 2-2 against Kiwis, provided insights into Rauf's rehabilitation, expressing optimism but also advocating for a cautious approach towards his full-scale return to international cricket.

"Haris Rauf has resumed bowling three days ago, which shows he is making good progress. However, in my opinion, the upcoming three-match T20I series in Ireland might be too soon for him. Perhaps the England series would be ideal for his return," Shaheen noted during the broadcast, reflecting a measured approach to managing Rauf's recovery.
This prudent strategy highlights the need to ensure Rauf is fully fit and ready to endure the rigors of back-to-back matches in international tournaments. The official medical team's update on his condition is awaited, while Pakistan's cricket itinerary includes a series in Ireland from May 10-14, followed by a four-match T20 series in England from May 22-30.
As the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies looms in early June, Shaheen emphasized the importance of Rauf's role in the team. "It's good news that Haris is getting better because if you look at the statistics, Rauf is crucial in taking wickets in the middle overs and Pakistan will be needing that during the World Cup," he explained, highlighting Rauf's key role.
Haris Rauf's absence was notable during the recent Pakistan-New Zealand series at home, following a shoulder dislocation during the Pakistan Super League earlier this season. His injury led to his initial omission from the national squad for the ongoing series against New Zealand, during which time the Pakistan Cricket Board reinstated his central contract in acknowledgment of his pivotal role in the team.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has lauded Rauf as a "star player for Pakistan," signifying the board's support and the high expectations placed on his shoulders. As preparations for the T20 World Cup intensify, the cricket community and fans alike are hopeful for Rauf's timely recovery and return, reinforcing Pakistan's bowling lineup as they aim for success on the global stage.
The details were highlighted by Shaheen Afridi, who spoke on the official broadcaster's channel during the post-match analysis.
