Will Kavya Maran Move SRH Out of Hyderabad after Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Orders Inquiry into Free Passes Controversy?

By MyKhel Staff

SRH vs HCA Free Passes Controversy: The ongoing dispute between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) over complimentary passes for IPL 2025 has escalated, raising questions about the franchise's future in Hyderabad.

With Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy ordering a vigilance inquiry into the allegations against HCA, speculation is mounting over whether SRH owner Kavya Maran will consider relocating the team.

Kavya Maran, who passionately attends all SRH matches and plays a crucial role in the team's management, has been closely monitoring the developments. SRH has accused HCA of harassment regarding the allocation of free passes. A letter from the SRH management to the HCA Secretary recently surfaced, detailing the alleged pressure exerted by the association.

According to the letter, SRH has collaborated with HCA for over 12 years and has consistently provided 3,900 complimentary tickets as per their agreement. Among these, 50 tickets were allocated for the F12A corporate box. However, this season, the capacity of the F12A box has been reduced to 30 seats.

HCA allegedly demanded an additional 20 tickets from another corporate box to compensate for the reduction. SRH claimed they suggested discussing the matter further to reach a fair resolution. However, during a recent match, HCA reportedly locked the F3 corporate box and demanded the extra tickets, threatening not to unlock it otherwise.

"This is not the first time HCA has resorted to such pressure tactics. Over the last two seasons, our staff has faced numerous difficulties due to HCA's conduct. We have repeatedly brought these issues to their attention. This year, even the HCA President issued threats on multiple occasions.

Their behaviour suggests that they do not want Sunrisers Hyderabad to play at this venue. If that is the case, we will consult with the BCCI, the Telangana government, and our management to consider shifting to another venue," wrote Srinath, SRH's General Manager (Sports), in the letter.

Following these allegations, CM Revanth Reddy expressed strong disapproval of HCA's conduct and ordered an immediate inquiry. Meanwhile, HCA has denied the accusations, stating that they have not received any such letter from SRH. However, with the Chief Minister's intervention and the order for an investigation, the controversy has gained credibility.

It's worth noting that Kavya Maran or her father Kalanithi Maran are yet to make an official statement on the matter. It remains to be seen if she will be attending the SRH match in Hyderabad against Gujarat Titans on April 6. Worse, the match may move out of Hyderabad altogether if the issue is not settled.

The dispute has raised concerns over the governance of HCA, and the outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for the association and IPL matches in Hyderabad. As the issue unfolds, all eyes are on the findings of the vigilance inquiry and the response from the concerned authorities.
