Royal Challengers Bengaluru may be set to face another major setback ahead of IPL 2026, with reports suggesting that Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara is unlikely to participate in the tournament after failing to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Sri Lanka Cricket.
According to reports, Sri Lanka Cricket has introduced new mandatory physical performance tests for players seeking permission to participate in overseas franchise leagues such as the IPL and PSL. Thushara reportedly did not meet the required fitness benchmarks, preventing the board from issuing the necessary clearance.

Under the newly implemented regulations, Sri Lankan players must pass strict fitness assessments before being granted permission to compete in franchise tournaments.
Reports indicate that Thushara failed to secure the required fitness points despite not suffering from any injury. As a result, he may miss IPL 2026 entirely unless he meets the fitness criteria in time.
There has been no official confirmation yet from either Royal Challengers Bengaluru or the IPL regarding his withdrawal, but the development could impact the franchise's overseas bowling plans.
If the NOC is ultimately denied, Thushara risks losing his IPL contract reportedly worth around INR 1.6 crore. The development also adds to RCB's growing concerns ahead of the season after another pacer, Yash Dayal, was ruled out earlier.
Thushara had been viewed as a valuable addition to the bowling lineup, particularly after playing an important role in Sri Lanka's campaigns in recent international tournaments.
While Thushara's participation remains uncertain, several Sri Lankan players have reportedly passed the new fitness tests and received clearance to play in IPL 2026.
These include Dushmantha Chameera, Dasun Shanaka, Pathum Nissanka, and Kamindu Mendis.
If confirmed, Thushara's absence would mark another early challenge for RCB as they prepare to defend their IPL title in the 2026 season.
