Will the IPL 2025 be Called Off after Dharamshala Match gets Cancelled? BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia gives Latest Update

Amidst the rising geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, speculations have begun to swirl over the continuation of the IPL 2025.

The recent abandonment of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamshala-originally slated for May 8 - has further fuelled doubts over the future course of the tournament.

The match was officially called off amid the first innings, with reports attributing the decision to security concerns arising from cross-border hostilities. As part of the ongoing military operations in the northern region, specifically Operation Sindoor- the Indian government has reportedly restricted access to multiple airspaces and heightened alert protocols across Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring states.

In the wake of the abandoned match, rumours have begun circulating online that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was preparing to hold an emergency meeting to assess the viability of continuing IPL 2025. However, a senior BCCI official has now issued a categorical denial, labeling such claims as "fake news."

"There is no emergency meeting taking place. We are in different locations, and the only concern was the Dharamsala match, which we have decided to call off. Let's avoid spreading rumours," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified in a statement, as quoted by IANS.

While the situation remains volatile in northern India, there has been no official indication that the rest of the IPL 2025 season is under threat. Matches in other parts of the country are likely to proceed as planned, but no official confirmation has arrived so far.

As things stand, the IPL governing council has not convened any emergency session to deliberate on a suspension or postponement of the tournament. BCCI sources continue to monitor the situation closely in collaboration with government agencies, but no change has been made to the tournament's broader schedule. The situation may get clearer on Friday morning, but as of now, IPL remains on course.

Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan Super League's match in Rawalpindi was called off due to a military attack by India, which damaged a restaurant near the Rawalpindi stadium. Amid this, the PCB has decided to move the PSL to Karachi.
