Vinod Kambli, once known for his flamboyant batting and charisma, is now making headlines for his worrying health condition and recent hospitalisation.
A recent viral video from the Mumbai Cricket Association’s event celebrating Wankhede Stadium’s 50th anniversary shows Kambli struggling to walk without support. The clip, which has taken the internet by storm, depicts the 52-year-old needing assistance to take a few steps and touch Sunil Gavaskar’s feet.

Kambli, who was hospitalised in late December 2024 due to a brain clot, urinary infection, and cramps, was discharged only a few weeks ago. Doctors declared him “fit” upon release but recommended strict precautions. However, his visibly frail state at the event has left fans and cricketing legends deeply concerned.
The former cricketer’s health has been a cause for concern for over a decade. In 2013, Kambli underwent two heart surgeries, supported financially by Sachin Tendulkar.
In December 2024, his condition deteriorated further when he was admitted to Akruti Hospital after collapsing at home due to dizziness and a urinary issue. Doctors later diagnosed clots in his brain (as per Hindustan Time), raising fears about his long-term health.
While doctors assured that Kambli had recovered well, his recent appearance suggests otherwise. In the viral clip, Kambli, aided by two individuals, slowly made his way to the stage, bowing to Gavaskar in a heartfelt gesture. The scene, while touching, has sparked speculation about whether the former batter might require another hospitalisation.
Several cricketing stalwarts, including Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar, have expressed concern over Kambli’s health. Both legends have emphasised the need for proper rehabilitation and long-term care for the struggling former star. Kambli’s deteriorating physical state has also reignited discussions about providing support to retired players facing financial and health challenges.
Given his recent health history, it’s not unfounded to question whether Kambli’s condition may lead to another hospital visit. His struggles at the event, coupled with his brain clot diagnosis, suggest that he may require ongoing medical supervision. While Dr Vivek Trivedi, who treated Kambli during his last hospital stay, assured fans of his recovery, the cricketing community is now urging him to prioritise his health above public appearances.
The viral video has drawn an outpouring of emotional support from fans on social media. Many have called for greater awareness and assistance for cricketers like Kambli, who face severe health and financial challenges post-retirement.
