'Literally said IPL before England': India's fans ecstatic on Sam Curran's introduction at Wimbledon 2023

Indian fans were left thrilled after Wimbledon introduced Sam Curran as an 'IPL superstar' first before mentioning his national team England on Saturday. "A special seat in the Royal Box for IPL and England superstar, Sam Curran 🤩 #Wimbledon," their official Twitter handle tweeted.

Curran, who fetched Rs 18.50 crore to become the costliest player in the history of IPL earlier this year, was present at the Centre Court and got the Royal Box treatment during the match between Spanish world number on Carlos Alcaraz and his Chilean opponent Nicolas Jarry.

While a few fans took jibes at Wimbledon for using IPL to increase the reach of the post, the others celebrated the popularity of the Indian T20 league which has emerged as the biggest brands in the sporting world. Here are a few reactions.

The 25-year-old won the Vitality Blast 2022 quarter-final match against Lancashire on Friday. The Surrey all-rounder scored 17 off 15 with the bat and bowled four overs for 35 runs later in the match.

In the IPL 2023, the southpaw represented Punjab Kings (PBKS) and also captained the side when regular captain Shikhar Dhawan was out with injury for a few matches.

He could be next seen playing for Surrey in the semi-final of the Vitality Blast 2023 on Saturday, July 15.
