IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma ushered praises for astute captaincy against West Indies

India captain Rohit Sharma marshalled the troops excellently in the first Test against West Indies.

West Indies were bundled out for just 150 runs after their captain Kraigg Brathwaite decided to bat first.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up a five-for in the innings while Ravindra Jadeja picked up three wickets. But it was a wicket from Mohammed Siraj which turned the match completely in India's favour.

West Indies were struggling at 76 for 5 but Alick Athanaze and Jason Holder started to build a partnership. Together they added 41 runs and were looking to rebuild the innings. But despite the sluggish nature of the wicket, Rohit Sharma decided to bring back Mohammed Siraj for a spell.

Siraj, who was brought back for the spell used a short ball to get the wicket of Jason Holder immediately. This broke the momentum of the West Indies innings as they were bundled out for just a paltry 150 runs.

India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik praised India captain Rohit Sharma for his brilliant change of tactics. The Indian captain decided to use the short ball strategy against the nature of the wicket, and Siraj also executed the plan with precision.

"I think Rohit Sharma did something brilliant on Day 1, used the short ball tactics when things were going well with Holder - Athanaze partnership by bringing Siraj and got the wicket of Holder then Jadeja & Ashwin steamrolled West Indies," Karthik said.

India are currently 119 for no loss in their first innings. Captain Rohit Sharma is unbeaten on 50 while debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal is unbeaten on 55 runs. The visitors are just 31 runs behind the hosts.
