Women's T20 World Cup: India vs West Indies women's injury update

India women's T20 World Cup injury update

Smriti Mandhana, who missed the Pakistan game due to injury, is expected to return to the playing XI for the game with struggling Yashtika Bhatia to make space for her. Mandhana will head into the game right after becoming the most expensive player in the inaugural Women's Premier League auction at Rs 3.40 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In fact, all the Indian players must be heading into the game with heavy pockets after WPL's big payday but will be looking to bring their focus back in the game with the stakes too high.

Jemimah Rodrigues would look to start from where she ended in the last game as she turned out to be the player for the big occasion. She scored a 38-ball 53* under pressure against Pakistan in a thriller with Richa Ghosh (31* off 20) firing from the other end as well. The middle-order batter also showed that her 91* in the warm-up against Bangladesh has set her up well for the tournament that matters.

The team's skipper Harmanpreet Kaur hasn't scored big in the last few games and will like to do so on Wednesday against West Indies, against who she also scored her last half-century back in January.

Shafali Verma's 25-ball 33 was her return to form as she scored more than 15 runs for the first time in her last seven innings (including at the U-19 Women's World Cup).

Pacer Renuka Singh was expected to shine in South African conditions suiting seamers but the youngster has struggled to take wickets in her last five games in the country since arrival. Her senior bowlers Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad haven't been taking wickets in a lot either, adding to India's bowling concerns in the tournament.

The onus of wickets has now fallen on two youngsters, Radha Yadav, and Pooja Vastrakar. Left-arm orthodox Yadav has done five dismissals in last three games while Vastrakar has struggled to maintain consistency but has been among wickets.

West Indies women's T20 World Cup key players

West Indies, who will look to recover after the loss to England, will be hoping that their opener Hayley Matthews continues with her form and play a bigger hand in the side's innings build-up. The captain is also the absolute pick as she has been picking wickets as well. She, however, has lacked a consistent opening partner despite trying multiple options.

Experienced Shemaine Campbell remains a familiar face at No. 3 and had a good start in the last few games but couldn't score big yet. All-rounder Chinelle Henry is another smart pick as she comes in handy as a middle-order batter and has been among wickets too.

Spinner Karishma Ramharack has been among wickets too off late while leg-spinner Afy Fletcher took two wickets in the last game and has been economical in the middle over.
