Women’s Tri-Nation Series: Harmanpreet Kaur to Lead India Against Sri Lanka and South Africa

By MyKhel Staff

Women's Tri-Nation Series: India is set to take on Sri Lanka and South Africa in a Women's Tri-Nation ODI tournament, scheduled to begin on April 27 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the tournament, with Harmanpreet Kaur named as captain and Smriti Mandhana as her deputy.

Women s Tri-Nation Series

The tri-series will feature each team playing four matches, with the top two sides advancing to the final, slated for May 11. This series also serves as vital preparation for the Indian women's team, who recently secured second place in the ICC Women's Championship 2022-25 and are gearing up to host the ICC Women's World Cup later this year.

India will miss the services of pace duo Renuka Singh Thakur and Titas Sadhu, both ruled out due to injuries. Despite their absence, the squad features a mix of experience and fresh talent, including newcomers like Kashvee Gautam, Tejal Hasabnis, and Shuchi Upadhyay.

India Women's Squad for Tri-Nation ODI Series

Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (Vice-Captain), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (Wicketkeeper), Yastika Bhatia (Wicketkeeper), Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Arundhati Reddy, Tejal Hasabnis, Sree Charani, Shuchi Upadhyay.

BCCI Central Contracts Update

In another key development, the BCCI recently released the list of centrally contracted women cricketers for the 2024-25 season. Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Deepti Sharma continue to occupy the top Grade A category, reflecting their consistent performances.

Fast bowler Renuka Thakur, all-rounder Jemimah Rodrigues, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, and opener Shafali Verma have retained their places in Grade B. However, left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gaikwad has not been offered a contract this season.

The Grade C category sees several new entrants, including promising youngsters like Shreyanka Patil, Arundhati Reddy, Titas Sadhu, Amanjot Kaur, and Uma Chetry. They join the likes of Yastika Bhatia, Radha Yadav, Sneh Rana, and Pooja Vastrakar.

Notably, players such as Meghna Singh, Devika Vaidya, Sabbineni Meghana, Anjali Sarvani, and Harleen Deol have missed out on central contracts this time.

The upcoming tri-series is expected to play a crucial role in India's preparations for the ICC Women's World Cup, giving the team a chance to fine-tune combinations and assess bench strength.
