Women’s FTP 2025-29: ICC Announces Expanded Schedule with 400 Matches Across Formats

Women’s FTP 2025-29: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released an ambitious Future Tours Programme (FTP) for women’s cricket covering 2025-2029, confirming nearly 400 matches across formats among 11 competing nations.

Spearheaded by the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC), the FTP aims to provide clarity and context to international fixtures while boosting visibility and structure in women’s cricket.

This expanded FTP will feature a multi-format series and tri-series in preparation for major ICC tournaments, along with an increase in the number of participating nations. In a significant step, the IWC will increase from 10 to 11 teams, with Zimbabwe joining the ongoing Championship lineup.

This fourth IWC cycle introduces a round-robin structure where each team plays eight others, including four home and four away series. As a result, 132 ODIs will be contested across 44 series, providing a competitive pathway to the 2029 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.

“The ODIs within the Women’s Championship will continue to provide both context and a pathway to the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2029,” Wasim Khan, ICC General Manager of Cricket, said in the press release. "The effort made by the Members to provide a balanced and contextual calendar will further elevate the women's game."

What is in Store in New Women’s FTP 2025-29?

In line with its innovative steps, the FTP 2025-29 cycle also includes an ICC event each year. India will host the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025, with the Women’s T20 World Cup set for the UK in 2026 and a six-team Champions Trophy scheduled for 2027.

The new FTP adds much-needed emphasis on multi-format series, a step to reintroduce Test cricket for women. Australia, England, India, South Africa, and the West Indies have all agreed to incorporate multi-format series into their schedules. Australia, in particular, leads this charge with seven such series across formats.

Tri-series will also serve as valuable lead-up events to ICC tournaments; notably, England will host a T20I tri-series with India and New Zealand before the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
