Women's T20 World Cup 2024: England Boost Net Run Rate With Scotland Win Before Crucial Tie Against West Indies

By MyKhel Staff

England women boosted their net run rate (NRR) with a thumping 10-wicket victory over Scotland in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday (October 13), days ahead of the crucial Group B clash against West Indies.

Set a target of 110 to win, England rode on unbeaten fifties from openers Danni Wyatt and Maia Bouchier to complete the run-chase in just 10 overs, and climbed back atop of Group B points table with 6 points.

Wyatt scored 51 not out off 26 balls in an innings that included 7 fours, while Bouchier slammed 12 fours en-route her unbeaten 62 off 34 balls at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.

With the win, England moved up the standings, but are yet to confirm their spot in the semi-final as South Africa (6 points) and West Indies (4 points) still remain alive in the race. England face West Indies in the final Group B match on Tuesday (October 15) in Dubai.

The clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium will keep all three teams, including South Africa interested as the two semi-final spots from Group B will be finalized based on the result in the contest.

Earlier, having won the toss and opting to bat in their first-ever T20I meeting against England, Scotland got off to a steady start in the desert climes of Sharjah.

Openers Sarah Bryce and Saskia Horley negotiated the powerplay unscathed, but struggled to up the scoring rate, and perished with just 50 on the board. Skipper Kathryn Bryce made a notable contribution of 33 from 28 balls.

However, the other batters failed to score at a brisk pace as Sophie Eccelstone applied the brakes with figures of 2 for 13 in 4 overs, while Nat Sciver-Brunt, Lauren Bell, Charlie Dean and Danielle Gibson all chipped in with a wicket each for England.

In Group B, England is currently on 6 points with a NRR of +1.716 and occupy top spot, while South Africa sit in second spot with 6 points and a NRR of +1.382. West Indies has a much better NRR of +1.708, but still sit in third with 4 points.
