Women's T20 World Cup 2024: India's Arundhati Reddy Reprimanded For Aggressive Send Off of Pakistan's Nida Dar

By MyKhel Staff

India's Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded for her agressive reaction to the dismissal of Pakistan's Nida Dar in a Group A match of the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup 2024 in Dubai on Sunday (October 6).

An ICC release on Monday (October 7) said Reddy, who was the Player of the Match against Pakistan, has been reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. One demerit point has been added to Reddy's disciplinary record.

Arundhati Reddy punished for send off of Nida Dar in India vs Pakistan Women s T20 World Cup 2024 group stage match

Reddy was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match."

This was the Indian pacer's first offence in a 24-month period. As per ICC, if a player reaches four or more demerit points within a 24-month period, they are converted into suspension points and a player is banned. Two suspension points equate to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whatever comes first for the player

The incident occurred in the 20th over of Pakistan's innings, when Reddy, after dismissing all-rounder Nida Dar, gestured in the direction of the pavilion.

Reddy admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Lauren Agenbag, third umpire Jacquline Williams and fourth umpire Claire Polosak levelled the charge. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Coming back to the match, Reddy starred with the ball, finishing with figures of 3 for 19 to help restrict Pakistan to 105/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Shreyanka Patil (2 for 12) was the next best bowler for India, while Renuka Singh Thakur, Deepti Sharma and Asha Shobana claimed a wicket each.

In response, India rode on steady knocks from Shafali Verma (32 off 35 balls), Jemimah Rodrigues (23 off 28 balls) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (29 off 24 balls) to seal a 6-wicket win with 7 balls to spare at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

India bounced back from the opening game loss against New Zealand to keep their semi-final hopes alive with a victory over Pakistan. Now, they will hope for positive results in their remaining Group A matches against Sri Lanka and Australia.

The Women in Blue will next face Sri Lanka on Wednesday (October 9) at the same venue in Dubai before they take on Australia in their final group stage match on Sunday (October 13) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.
