Women's T20 World Cup: Australia Women's injury woes blessing in disguise for India and their semi-final hopes?

By MyKhel Staff

Three-time defending champions Australia Women have suffered a couple of major injury setbacks ahead of their match against India Women on Sunday, October 13. However, with their third win on the trot against Pakistan on Saturday, Australia Women already have a foot in the semi-final.

Tayla Vlaeminck, who walked into the playing eleven in place of Grace Harris, dislocated her right shoulder while trying to stop a boundary.

"Tayla dislocated her right shoulder while attempting to stop a boundary. Her shoulder is now relocated and the extent of the injury will be known following further assessment over the coming days," a Cricket Australia (CA) statement said.

Speaking between innings, Vlaeminck's teammate Megan said, "She gives a hundred percent all the time. We will rally around her and try to keep her happy."

Following the match, Tahlia McGrath said that the players will rally around the injured bowler, and added that it was difficult but important for the team that they maintain their focus.

"Heartbroken for her, she's had a really unlucky run of injuries and has done some really hard rehab so we'll rally around her and see what comes in the next few days," McGrath said.

"We all love Tayla. It was pretty hard to watch to be honest it was really hard... so it was just (a case of) come together as a group and focus on the job at hand and we'll get around her after the game. It's really important in that moment just to refocus and regroup," she added.

Alyssa Healy blow for Australia Women ahead of India clash

Later in the match, Australia Women captain Alyssa Healy was forced to get retired hurt after pulling up while attempting to take a single. Her availability for the remainder of the series will be confirmed depending on the nature of the injury which will be confirmed after the scans.

"Alyssa sustained an acute right foot injury while running between wickets. Once we have more information based on her assessment and scans tomorrow, her availability for the remainder of the tournament will be clearer," a statement said.

Australia injury woes blessing in disguise for India?

India Women are stuck in a tricky condition after losing their tournament opener against New Zealand. They have defeated Pakistan and Sri Lanka thereafter, but a win against Australia with a big margin is crucial. In case Healy is ruled out of the next game, India Women would definitely benefit.
