It was yet another disappointing defeat for the Indian women's team as they succumbed to a 9-run loss against Australia in the final group stage match on Sunday (October 13).
Chasing 152 runs, the Indian women fell short despite captain Harmanpreet Kaur's unbeaten half-century in Sharjah. The likes of Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh failed to deliver yet again in the crunch situation.

After a losing start to New Zealand. India managed to win against their Asian counterparts. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team comfortably beat Pakistan and then secured a mammoth win over Sri Lanka. But in the final group stage match, they again faltered at the hands of Australia.
With the defeat, India has finished with 4 points in their four matches of the T20 World Cup in UAE. They have a healthy Net Run Rate though, which is at +0.322.
At the moment, India is in a massive pickle. The qualification chances are not in their own hands. The final group stage match will be between Pakistan and New Zealand and the Kiwis, having already accumulated four points, will have a simple task. If they win, they will progress to the semi-finals. Pakistan defeating New Zealand will make India qualify, provided Pakistan don't cross their net run rate.
If New Zealand win the match, India will be eliminated. Also, if the match is abandoned or washed out, India will be knocked out as then New Zealand would reach to 5 points.
