South Africa Women captain Sune Luus on Sunday called Australia "annoying" after losing the final of the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 at Newlands in Cape Town. The hosts lost the summit clash by 19 runs.

Australia have now won six of the eight editions of the Women's T20 World Cup. Overall, the team now has won 13 World Cup titles (including 50-over World Cup). Meg Lanning's side have now also won each of the last three T20 World Cups. Defending 157, Australia bowled tight lines and fielded excellently to choke South Africa to 137/6 in 20 overs.

On being asked about Australia's performance, Luus jokingly called Australia "annoying" before praising the champion team for their classy show in South Africa.

"Firstly, you guys (Australia) are very annoying (smiles). But, congratulations to Meg and her team. You have been inspirational in world cricket for a long time and lot of the players look up to you guys and you showed your class again," she said.

Further, the 27-year-old reckoned that the 157-run total was chaseable but her side lose wickets at crucial junctures of the game.

"It's been amazing. To play at our home ground, with so many people supporting is amazing. Thank you Newlands for all the support, we love you guys a lot. If you told me before the game Australia were getting 156 I would have taken it. We lost wickets at crucial times, we knew they had a quality bowling line up. We lost the game but we can still be proud of the way we played in the tournament."

The South Africa Women captain also reckoned that there was a lot of scope for women's cricket in the country. She urged that there was need for club cricket and provincial cricket for continuous supply of women's players.

"I don't think women's cricket is going backwards at the moment. Some exciting moments are waiting in the coming months. I hope there is a lot of development in this front in the country. So many girls want to pick up a bat and ball, so the schools had to get girls cricket. They got to be starting club cricket as well with more girls knocking on the door," Luus asserted.
