Irfan Pathan was full of praise for Yuvraj Singh following India Champions' title triumph at the inaugural World Championship of Legends 2024 final on Saturday (July 13), saying the skipper deserves the trophy after managing to assemble the team in short time.
In a pulsating finale at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, India Champions defeated arch-rivals Pakistan Champions by five wickets in the WCL 2024 final to lift the first-ever World Championship of Legends trophy.

The Yuvraj Singh-led side showcased their dominance in the competition and secured the coveted title in a match that went down to the wire as two teams fought hard till the final over of the title clash.
Pakistan Champions, opting to bat first after winning the toss, posted a competitive total of 156 for 6 in their 20 overs. In response, India sealed the win, finishing at 159 for 5 in 19.1 overs, much to the delight of their fans.
After a night of celebrations and the victory had sunk in, the India Champions cricketers took to social media to express their reactions from the title triumph, which many felt was special, with the victory coming after beating rivals Pakistan.
Former all-rounder Irfan, who played a few key knocks with the bat during the tournament, hailed skipper Yuvraj, saying he liked playing under his former teammate, who he felt deserved to win the title.
"So happy to play under the leadership of @YUVSTRONG12. He wanted to win this badly. He deserves this trophy as a leader as he assembled the team in short time & gave each and everyone their role precisely," Irfan posted on X.
"We troubled him a lot by giving him too many advices but he managed everything so so well. Love you brother for that phone call."
Skipper Yuvraj himself also took to social media to state "it's always great" to be back playing with legends and thanked the fans for their support in Birmingham and Northampton.
"Feels good to be holding the winning trophy at this age too. Absolutely thrilled with the boys' (or should I say men's) performance throughout the tournament! It's always great to be back on the park with legends from around the world," Yuvraj posted on X.
"A massive thank you to the crowds for coming out in large numbers to support us. And not to forget our coaches and support staff, who did an incredible job oiling our rusted machinery and helping us perform out there!"
