World Cup 2015: Australia break India's record

Perth, Mar 4: There is no respite for the bowlers at ICC World Cup 2015. It is turning out to be a batsman's game as Australia today broke India's World Cup record in their Pool A match against debutants Afghanistan at WACA ground. Australia won by a World Cup record margin - 275 runs as Afghanistan were bowled out for 142. The previous biggest victory margin at World Cup was by India, beating Bermuda by 257 runs in 2007. Overall 275-run win is second largest in ODI history.

The hosts piled on 417/6 in 50 overs to register the highest World Cup score. They were sent to bat by Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi after winning the toss. India held the record with 413/5 against Bermuda which they posted in 2007 edition.

David Warner looks skywards and raises his bat after scoring a century

This is the third score of 400 and above at World Cup 2015. This is the first time in 40-year World Cup history that 400 had been topped thrice in one edition.

David Warner led Australia's record batting display with an aggressive 178 while Glenn Maxwell smashed a 39-ball 88. Steve Smith fell for 95. Maxwell could have broken the fastest World Cup hundred held by Ireland's Kevin O'Brien (off 50 balls) but missed out.

The way batsmen are dominating in World Cup 2015, we can expect more records to be shattered.
