WC 2015: Michael Clarke retires from ODIs, title clash to be his last

Melbourne, March 28: Australian captain Michael Clarke on Saturday announced his retirement from one-day internationals on the eve of the title clash between his team and trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground here on Sunday. The final will be final limited over game for the 33-year-old player. He will continue to play Tests.

Clarke has been struggling with injuries for some time and could not play all the matches of the current edition of the World Cup held on his home soil.

Clarke is the sixth captain to lead Australia to the final of the cricket World Cup. Ian Chappell (1975), Allan Border (1987), Mark Taylor (1996), Steve Waugh (1999) and Ricky Ponting (2003 & 2007) have achieved the feat before him.

Australia crushed India by 95 runs in the semifinal at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday to make their seventh World Cup final. They have won the trophy four times before and ended up as runners-up twice.
