India's previous best second-wicket partnership was 68 between Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir in the semifinal of the 2011 World Cup at Mohali.

The Dhawan-Kohli partnership also eclipsed the 102-run partnership between Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Kaif registered in the 2003 match at the Centurion. It was the highest partnership for any wicket for India against Pakistan in a World Cup match till the beginning of today's match.

The partnership was broken when Dhawan failed to return to the crease after being turned down by Kohli while aiming for a single. Dhawan was dismissed for 73 runs off 76 balls (7 boundaries, 1 six).
