WC effect: Lok Sabha Speaker asks lawmakers to learn discipline from Indian cricketers

New Delhi, Feb 23: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan asked the parliamentarians to take a leaf out of the Indian cricket team's book to put up a disciplined show during the crucial Budget Session starting on Monday, a report said.

Mahajan said the Indian law-makers should learn from the young members of the Indian cricket team which is performing exceedingly well in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Speaker said in an-party meeting that the coordination and responsibility shown by the Indian cricketers in their match against South Africa at Melbourne on Sunday was worthy to be learned.

This was Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India's second win in the prestigious tournament after the 76-run victory over Pakistan on February 15.

Parliamentary sessions in India are known for their ruckus and disruption of daily work. The previous regime of the Congress-led UPA had seen a number of parliamentary sessions failing to complete the pending work because of commotion, resulting in wasting of crores of rupees and crucial time.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present at the dinner that was held after the long all-party meeting.

Fireworks are expected in the Budget Session over the government's Land Acquisition Bill that could jeopardise the government's reform plans. Farmer rights activists have already launched agitation against the Act. Activist Anna Hazare reached New Delhi to raise protest on this issue.

A number of Union ministers and senior political leaders were also present at the meeting.
