Melbourne, March 29: Half-way into the final of the World Cup 2015 between Australia and New Zealand and it was India which became a topic of discussion. The commentators were heard uttering more about India and former players like Kapil Dev and Mohinder Amarnath after the Kiwis were bowled out for 183 in 45 overs.

But why suddenly India became the talking point in a match they weren't playing?

The reason was the score of 183. It reminded everyone of Kapil's Devils who had won the first World Cup for their country at the Lord's in 1983. India were skittled out by the mighty West Indies for below 183 and were favourites to make a hat-trick of winning the world title. But Kapil Dev's men had other thoughts in their mind. They bowled excellently and bowled out the Caribbeans for just 140, achieving almost an unbelievable feat.

That 43-run victory had turned the course of Indian cricket and the side announced its arrival in world cricket with a bang. The game became the most popular in India after that win and the 1985 one-day series victory in Australia.

India repeated the feat in 2011 when Mahendra Singh Dhoni led the team to its second World Cup title win. They, however, failed to defend their title as they lost to Australia by 95 runs in the semifinal in Sydney.
