BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Thursday, October 5 announced free mineral and packaged drinking water for fans across stadiums at all the ten World Cup 2023 venues. Jay Shah made the announcement just before the start of the first match between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad, Delhi, Hyderabad, Dharamsala, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai are hosting the 48 matches over the span of 45 days. To help fans beat the heat and humidity, fans will get free packaged water at stadiums at all the venues.

"Exciting times ahead as we anticipate the first ball of @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023! I am proud to announce that we're providing FREE mineral and packaged drinking water for spectators at stadiums across India. Stay hydrated and enjoy the games! Let's create unforgettable memories during CWC 2023," Jay Shah wrote on X.

New Zealand won the toss in the first match of the World Cup 2023 and elected to bowl first. Kane Williamson, Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi are the key players missing for New Zealand in the match.

Defending champions England have also taken the field without Ben Stokes. The star cricketer has come out of his ODI retirement to feature in the ICC marquee event. He was ruled out due to a niggle issue. Harry Brook made his ODI World Cup debut in his absence.
