World Cup 2023: Change in schedule including India vs Pakistan clash on cards, decision in 3-4 days: Jay Shah

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that change in schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023 matches are on the cards and the final decision would be taken in the the next three to four days.

The comments from Shah came following his discussions with the associations hosting World Cup games in New Delhi on Thursday. Without revealing the names, he stated that three participating teams have written to the ICC for changes in schedule. He added that efforts to reduce long gaps between two games of teams are being made.

"Three members have written to the ICC for a schedule change. Only the date and timings will be changed, venues will not be changed. If there is a six-day gap between games, we are trying to reduce it to 4-5 days. The picture will be clear in three-four days. Changes will happen in consultation with the ICC," Shah said.

Shah did not give a direct answer when quizzed about the rescheduling of the much-awaited World Cup 2023 match between India and Pakistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15 but said, "As I have said before, few member boards have written to the ICC and a decision will be taken soon."

He also quashed out any security threats around the high-profile match. "Security is not an issue at all," he stated. Notably, the clash between the arch-rivals is clashing with the first day of Navratri celebrations in the city.

Rescheduling the match on October 14 was being considered but having three World Cup matches on the same day is highly unlikely. Not only will it lead to logistical and broadcasting issues, but the fans will also face a tough time adjusting their itineraries.
