World Cup 2023: Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the England match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, November 4, after a second freak injury in less than 12 months. He broke his leg during a birthday party last November.
Maxwell has suffered a concussion injury and some facial bruising after falling off a golf cart in the dark after a round at Kalhaar Blues and Greens golf club in Ahmedabad. Maxwell, who was standing on the back of the moving golf cart, lost his grip and fell off.

"In transporting him back from the clubhouse to the team bus, Glenn Maxwell came off the back of a cart and has suffered a small concussion, so he will go into concussion protocols for the next period of time and will unfortunately miss the England game," coach Andrew McDonald said.
"The guys were ferried off on carts. Glenn and a few other players jumped on the back of carts and unfortunately he lost his grip on the way back to the team bus and sustained that injury.
"It was just a clear-cut accident … he's an important player for us, hopefully it's just the one game he misses.
"There'll be no replacement (in the squad) as such, he'll go into six to eight days concussion protocol. We feel as though it'll be a relatively straightforward return to play protocol with where he's at at the moment."
As reorted by Cricket.com.au, the 34-year-old is in good spirits and would continue to train with the team. However, the concussion protocol would keep him out of action at least in the match against England. Australia will face Afghanistan on November 7 and then lock horns against Bangladesh in their last round robin match.
"He's doing well. He'll start some light exercise today and we feel as though it will be a relatively straightforward return to play," said McDonald.
"It doesn’t feel like it was on the severe side. The fortunate part of it was there were no other injuries sustained – it could have been a lot worse than it is."
Maxwell has looked in good form for Australia, who are placed fourth after four wins in six matches, in the ongoing ICC marquee event. He blasted a 40-ball hundred against Netherlands - the fastest in the history of the ODI World Cup.
The right-hand batter scored 41 runs in his last outing against New Zealand. He has also played a key role with the ball and picked four wickets in six matches.
Opener Travis Head, who fractured his hand ahead of the World Cup, made his comeback in Australia's last match against New Zealand on Saturday. The five-time champions would be hoping for Maxwell to get back on the park at the earliest.
