World Cup 2023: South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock retired from ODI cricket at the age of 30 after the Australia vs South Africa semi-final of the World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, November 16.
The southpaw had a brilliant run in the World Cup 2023. He scored 594 runs (including four hundreds) in 10 matches at an average of 59.40. Ahead of the India vs Australia final, de Kock is second behind Virat Kohli (711) in the list of leading run-scorers in the World Cup 2023.

Quinton de Kock also registered 20 dismissals behind the stumps. The tally is joint second-highest in World Cup history. Adam Gilchrist (2003) and Tom Latham (2019) are at the top with 21 dismissals each.
Australia's Alex Carey also registered 20 dismissals behind the stumps in the 2019 World Cup. De Kock dropped a catch during the semi-final with Australia still needing nine to win in the crunch game.
However, the Johannesburg star's dream of ending his career was shattered by Australia who won the semi-final by three wickets. Quinton de Kock scored three runs off 14 balls and was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood in his final ODI match.
Overall, De Kock, who retired from Test cricket in 2021, played 155 ODI matches and scored 6770 runs at an average of 45.74 and a strike rate of 96.65. He scored 21 hundreds and 30 fifties in his career.
"Quinton would've probably wanted to end his career on a different note, despite the result I think he'll remember his time. He'll go down as one of the legends in South African cricket," captain Temba Bavuma said after the match. Here's how others reacted.
