The Event Techincal Committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday (October 23) approved Brydon Carse as replacement player for injured pacer Reece Topley in England's ICC World Cup 2023 squad.
Topley, who suffered a finger injury during England's 229-run defeat to South Africa on Saturday (October 21), was ruled out of the remainder of the show-piece tournament after scans revealed a fracture to his left index finger.

England, who had the chance to add speedster and reserve player Jofra Archer in the squad as a replacement for Topley, have opted against that by calling up Carse, who was part of the squad that faced Ireland just ahead of the World Cup into the squad.
The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had on Sunday (October 22) revealed that Topley will play no further part in the World Cup and will fly back home for his rehabilitation.
The ICC released a statement on Monday (October 23), confiming their approval for the pacer Carse to join the England World Cup squad as a replacement for Topley.
"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 has approved Brydon Carse as a replacement for Reece Topley in the England squad," the ICC statement read.
The replacement of a player post the deadline of September 28, 2023 required the approval of the Event Technical Committee before a replacement player can be officially added to the squad.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager - Cricket and ETC Chair), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Hemang Amin (Acting CEO - BCCI), Gaurav Saxena (General Manager - Operations, BCCI), Russel Arnold and Simon Doull (Independent Representatives).
The 28-year-old Carse, who has played in 12 ODIs so far, claiming 14 wickets with a best of 5 for 61, will join up with the England camp as the defending champions aim to climb up the standings, having lost three of their four matches.
England will next face Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday (October 26) before they meet in-form India at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday (October 29).
