A massive fire broke out at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday night, bringing the dressing room of the iconic stadium to ashes. A short circuit has been identified as the reason for the mishap.
As per reports, the fire department said that the fire broke out at 11:50 PM and it took over one hour to control the situation. Notably, renovation works are also going on at the stadium which will be hosting as many as five world cup matches including a semi-final fixture.

The false ceiling of the dressing room has been damaged severely. A few cricket equipment of the players were also lying there when the fire broke out.
Recently, delegation teams of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) visited the Eden Gardens to check the venue’s infrastructure and crowd management ahead of the World Cup 2023.
"They don't have much observation. They are satisfied with the work. After IPL they are very happy with the club house, conference room and all. They have little issue with the washroom. But they are happy with the work that is going on. We are discussing on improving the commentary boxes. We are on discussion stage. They will mail us the report and will again have an inspection on 1st of September," CAB President Snehasis Ganguly said after the visit.
Eden Gardens will be hosting five World Cup 2023 matches. Bangladesh and Netherlands will play the first match here on October 28. Bangladesh will face Pakistan on October 31 before hosts India take on South Africa on November 5. England and Pakistan will lock horns on November 11.
