World Cup 2023: Rashid Khan, David Warner gets into heated argument during AUS vs AFG match

By MyKhel Staff

Tension grew between the players during the much-anticipated Australia vs Afghanistan match at the ICC World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (November 7) as David Warner and Rashid Khan were spotted having a heated argument during the match at the Wankhed Stadium in Mumbai.

The incident happened after the fourth over of the Australian innings as they were chasing a record total of 291 at the venue. Both Rashid Khan and David Warner were caught on camera having an animated exchange of words right at the end of the 4th over.

While the conversation was inaudible, it's understood that Mitchell Marsh, who came to bat in the second over after the dismissal of Travis Head, exchanged a few words with Naveen-Ul-Haq at the end of the over, leading to Rashid Khan giving some words back to Marsh. Warner then intervened to have a long conversation with Rashid while the Afghan was moving back to his fielding position.

Naveen-Ul-Haq later returned in the sixth over to bowl against Marsh, who clobbered the pacer for a four and a six in the over before the bowler had his last laugh. Naveen had him plumb lbw in front of the wicket of the fourth over of the ball while Marsh's innings folded at 24 runs off 11 balls. Naveen celebrated the dismissal with an animated celebration in front of the batter, who walked back to the pavilion without taking a review after a quick chat with Warner.

Earlier in the first innings, Ibrahim Zadran (129* off 142) became the first Afghan batter to score a century in the ICC World Cup as his unbeaten knock took Afghanistan to 291/5. Rahmat Shah was the next-best scorer with 30 runs while Rashid Khan played a crucial cameo of 26* at No. 7.

Both teams are in an intense battle for a spot in the semifinal as Australia are currently third on the points table with 10 points while Afghanistan have a chance to go level on points with the five-time champions if they win the game.
