World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma lauded by former England captain after MOTM performance

India captain Rohit Sharma has performed excellently in this ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.

The opener has been in fluent form in the tournament, amassing 398 runs so far with an average excess of 66 so far. And he played another brilliant knock in their most recent victory over England.

The Indian captain scored 87 runs off just 101 balls, hitting 10 fours and 3 sixes. He was excellent in a slow pitch where all the other batters struggled. As the Indian captain's brilliance helped the Men in Blue with their sixth straight victory, former England captain Michael Vaughan lauded Rohit for his performance, both as a batter and captain.

"The captain set the foundation. India were in a precarious position at 30 for 3 and were under pressure. He got together with KL Rahul. Rohit's mindset is to be aggressive, be positive, try and hit the boundaries, but he realised that he had to hang in there and play at a Test match tempo with Rahul," Vaughan said speaking on Cricbuzz.

Vaughan also lauded Sharma for both his assertiveness and ability to show restraint as needed. He pointed out that Sharma consistently had the potential for a boundary hit in his thoughts, a tactic clear in his shot against Liam Livingstone.

"He always had that at the back of his mind that he could find the boundary. He played a beautiful shot off Liam Livingstone, who just spun one earlier. So, he always had that boundary option in him but it was a wonderful captain's knock because his team was under a little bit of pressure," he added.

The Indian captain's aggression on the field has been fruitful for the team in this ongoing tournament. The hosts secured a massive victory over the reigning champions in Lucknow on Sunday.
