ICC Cricket World Cup 2023: Shaheen Afridi to be named vice-captain after reported fight with captain Babar Azam

Pakistan cricket team has constantly been in news ever since they crashed out of the Asia Cup 2023. They have lost their number one ranking in ODI cricket. A report of dressing room fight between captain Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi also emerged after the loss against Sri Lanka which led to their departure from the continental event.

Naseem Shah, their premium pacer has almost been ruled out of the World Cup 2023. An official confirmation is awaited. One more development is slowly taking shape.

Shaheen Afridi set to be named Pakistan vice-captain for World Cup 2023

After his poor outing with the bat and ball in the Asia Cup 2023, Shadab Khan is very likely to be sacked as the Pakistan vice-captain. Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi is all set to become the new vice-captain of the Pakistan team.

A Geo.tv report has further claimed that Hassan Ali is set to make an ODI comeback for Pakistan for the first time after June 2022. All-rounder Imad Wasim is still not in contention. Saud Shakeel is also almost certain of travelling to India for the ICC major event. As per Geo.tv, the Pakistan squad would feature - Babar Azam (c), Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Abdulla Shafiq, Salman Ali Agha, Iftikhar Ahmed, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali and Zaman Khan.

Reports of Babar Azam vs Shaheen Afridi war of words

If reports are to be believed, Pakistan captain Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi were engaged in a war of words after the defeat to Sri Lanka on Thursday. Babar was criticising the team seniors when Shaheen Afridi asked at least to appreciate those who did well. Babar then replied that he is well aware about who is doing well and who’s not.

The reports added that Babar did not talk to anyone on his way back to the team hotel.
