Shreyas Iyer 'celebration' after 50 vs Sri Lanka baffles spectators in Mumbai - What is the Reason?

There was no hanging back of Shreyas Iyer as the Indian player dismantled the Sri Lankan bowling attack in Mumbai on Thursday.

Right from the get-going, Shreyas Iyer was aggressive and showed his immense, destructive quality with the bat. The Indian batter came in a good stage and capitalised on the Sri Lankan bowling by vandalising their attack. He went bang and scored all around the park and dealt with sixes in his terrific knock.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas has been subject of criticism for his lack of runs in the tournament. He hasn't scored too many runs, and also got dismissed bizarrely and disappointingly against England in the last match. People have questioned his abilities, but Shreyas Iyer was ready to answer all his critics with some elite display batting at the Wankhede Stadium, the abode where he has played all of his cricket.

Shreyas Iyer's lack of Celebration

And after getting to his fifty, Shreyas Iyer's celebration baffled the Wankhede crowd. It was mainly a lack of celebration which was kind of surprising. Generally a player is ecstatic when getting to a milestone, but Iyer showed no signs of celebrating his half-century mark.

The Indian dressing room was standing in clapping and the crowd also erupted in joy, but Iyer himself was nonchalant and in no mood for any celebratory gestures. He simply showed his thumbs up towards the Indian dressing room, and went about with his batting.

The batter has also completed 2000 runs in ODI cricket, with 16 fifties and 3 centuries to his name.

What is the reason for Shreyas Iyer's lack of celebration?

Shreyas Iyer has been pushed to the corner in this World Cup for his lack of runs, and the player has shown his true self in the adversity. He has come out punching and his intent in the inning against Sri Lanka has been excellent. The aggressive approach and the mindset of the batter was hailed by the commentators and it is to be seen how he carries forward the momentum.

As per as the lack of celebration, it was simply to not get ahead of himself. The player looked focused, on a mission to score runs, and perhaps wanted to remain in the zone.
