Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad has hit back at trolls and critics who called star batter Virat Kohli as selfish and obsessed with personal milestones following his record-equallisg 49th ODI century.
Kohli drew level with legendary Sachin Tendulkar for most ODI hundreds after his second ton in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 during India's 243-run victory over South Africa at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday (November 5).

While many celebrated the feat, a small section of the fans on social media criticized the star India batter following his 121-ball unbeaten 101, calling him a player who plays for personal milestones.
Former pacer Prasad took to social media to silence the critics by posting a message to show his support to Kohli, stating 'he is selfish enough to ensure his team wins.
"Hearing funny arguments about Virat Kohli being Selfish and obsessed with personal milestone. Yes Kohli is selfish, selfish enough to follow the dream of a billion people, selfish enough to strive for excellence even after achieving so much, selfish enough to set new benchmarks, selfish enough to ensure his team wins. Yes, Kohli is selfish," Prasad posted on X.
After the gritty innings, Tendulkar took to social media to congratulate Kohli on the feat, while the star batter said it was an "honour" for him to receive words of appreciation from his "hero."
"It is quite special to me. It is all too much to take in right now. To equal my hero's record in ODIs is a huge honour for me. I know people like comparisons but I'm never going to be as good as him. There is a reason why everyone of us look up to him, he is a perfection when it comes to batting," Kohli said at the post-match presentation.
"I am trying to do my best, trying to win games for my country. He is always going to be my hero regardless of what happens. It is a very emotional moment for me. I know where I come from, I know the days I have watched him play on TV. So, to stand here and get this appreciation from someone like him, it means a lot to me."
