'World Cup truly evaluates your performance' - Srinath

"The ICC Cricket World Cup is the stage that truly evaluates your performance in the four-year period between two tournaments," Srinath wrote. (India's World Cup centurions)

He continued, "When you cross that stage at the end of one World Cup, you turn around and look at your performances in those four years, across all formats. It is crucial to perform well in the World Cup as it keeps you in the hunt.

"Many big names have lost their places in the national side after a poor World Cup, which alone is indicative of the fact that it is the pinnacle of all tournaments. To me, the ICC Cricket World Cup is the Olympics of cricket."

Srinath is India's most successful fast bowler at the World Cup along with Zaheer Khan with 44 wickets. The right-arm fast bowler from Karnataka played in four World Cups (1992-2003).

In the 2003 World Cup, he took 16 wickets while the 1999 event yielded him 12 wickets. Srinath is now a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and has supervised 33 Tests, 147 ODIs and 46 T20Is.
