World T20: Virat Kohli breaks Chris Gayle's record in Mohali

Mohali, March 28: Virat Kohli is India's best batsman at the moment. He was once again proved it last night (March 27) as he powered the team into the ICC World Twenty20 semi-finals.

Kohli's incredible knock of 82 not out helped India defeat Australia by 6 wickets with 5 balls to spare at the PCA Stadium in a virtual quarter-final on Sunday night.

During the course of this match-winning innings, the right-hander broke West Indian explosive opener Chris Gayle's record.

The 27-year-old Kohli is now the fastest to reach 1,500 runs in Twenty20 Internationals, erasing Gayle's mark.

Kohli reached the milestone in 39 innings while the Caribbean left-hander need 45 visits to the crease to the landmark. He is also the first Indian to cross 1,500 runs in the format.

Among the batsmen who have more than 1,500 runs, Kohli is on top in averages. He averages 55.42 in 42 matches so far.

Both Kohli and Gayle, team-mates at Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will come face to face as India and West Indies clash in the semi-finals in Mumbai on March 31 (Thursday).
