Delhi Capitals continued their fantastic WPL campaign with a win over Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday (March 13).
Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen played a huge part in their win as her pivotal stormy inning at the end ensured the Capitals' victory and slumped RCB into their fifth straight defeat in the tournament.
The Capitals had three batters score over 30 runs and a crucial 29 off 15 balls by Jess Jonassen, who ensured DC recorded their fourth win in five games and are now placed second in the points table. Jonassen was awarded the Player of the Match for stepping up when the chase became tricky.
Reema Malhotra, a WPL expert for Sports18 and JioCinema, praised Jonassen's approach during the match and said, "If you have Jess Jonassen, you don't have to worry about anything. The way she's batting, all you'll say is 'don't worry because Jess Jonassen is there'."
"When they needed big shots, she delivered. When they needed to rotate the strike, she did that. Not only did she make the game but she also got them the win. When you play impactful cricket, it's impossible to overlook your performance," she added.
Another WPL expert Punam Raut was all praises for Australian batter Ellyse Perry, who played a brilliant knock with the bat for RCB but couldn't prevent her team's defeat.
"The RCB batters couldn't build a partnership in previous games. Finally, Perry and Richa gave them the partnership they needed which enabled them to reach 150. However, just one partnership isn't enough and the team needed more batters to be able to create more partnerships, akin to the contribution of the Delhi Capitals. RCB should expect a contribution from every batter. The form which Ellyse Perry is showing is magnificent," Raut said.
Delhi Capitals are currently sitting 2nd in the WPL table after garnering 8 points from their five matches. Smriti Mandhana's RCB are currently languishing at the bottom with no points after five matches.
