Mumbai Indians Women (MIW) on Thursday defeated Delhi Capitals Women (DCW) by eight wickets and five overs remaining to continue their unbeaten run in the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL). The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side has won each of their three matches now.
Electing to bat first at the DY Patil Stadium, Delhi lost their first three wickets for just 31 runs. The likes of Shafali Verma (2), Alice Capsey (6) and Marizanne Kapp (2) could not do much and were back in the pavilion before the end of the seventh over. Captain Meg Lanning (43 off 31) and Jemimah Rodrigues (25 off 18) took charge of the conditions and stitched a crucial 50-run partnership. But left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque struck twice in the 13th over to dismiss both the well set batters to trigger a collapse which saw Delhi get bundled out for 105. Lanning, Rodrigues and Radha Yadav (10) were the only three batters who could score in double digits. Ishaque, English pacer Issy Wong and off-spinner Hayley Matthews picked three wickets apiece for Mumbai.
In reply, Mumbai openers Yastika Bhatia (41 off 32) and Hayley Matthews (32 off 31) gave their team a solid start by forging a 65-run partnership for the first wicket. Tara Norris and Capsey struck once each before Nat Sciver-Brunt (23* off 19) and Harmanpreet Kaur (11* off 8) chased down the remaining total without any trouble. Matthews was adjudged Man of the Match for his all-round show.

The defeat was Delhi's first in the WPL 2023. They had eased past Royal Challengers Bangalore Women (RCBW) and UP Warriorz in their first two games. Mumbai continue to occupy the top spot in the 5-team competition.
Delhi face Gujarat Giants Women (GGW) on Saturday, while Mumbai will lock horns with UP Warriorz on Sunday, March 12.
