Mumbai, March 12: Natalie Germanos has heaped praise on Delhi Capitals opener Shafali Verma for her eagerness to work on flaws despite being so enormously talented.

Delhi Capitals bounced back strongly after a poor outing against the Mumbai Indians in the WPL and recorded an impressive 10-wicket win over Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Saturday (March 11) evening.

Chasing 106, DC reached the target in only 7.1 overs with Verma hitting 76 not out (28b, 10x4, 5x6). Skipper Meg Lanning was unbeaten on 21 (15b, 3x4) as DC sealed their third win in four matches.

Earlier, being asked to bowl first, all-rounder Marizanne Kapp was brilliant with the ball, picking up 5/15, the third 5-wicket haul of the league, to restrict Gujarat Giants to 105/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Germanos, a WPL expert for Sports18 and JioCinema, evaluated Verma's batting performance during the post-match show, saying: "She played so straight, in the V, and she took all of that in.

"She always seemed to be that kind of player, because when she burst onto the international scene, there were a few things in her technique that people realized were likely her weaknesses."

Germanos further added that Verma has struggled against quick short ball, but young Indian opener has gone and worked on overcoming that flaw.

"She doesn't like the short ball, especially if it's quick and coming at her body, she struggled a bit with it. But she has been trying to work on that as much as she possibly can," explained Germanos.

"She knows that there are things she's needed to work on in her game, and she has done that. That's what's so special about her. Despite having this enormous talent that's quite obvious to see, she's still gone back and worked on things."

Skipper Lanning, meanwhile, said she advised Verma on how to dominate the proceeding on Saturday (March 11).

"I told her to keep it simple. Stay still and hit the ball straight, and that's exactly what she did. It was incredible to watch, I am still trying to get over it, to be honest, it was pretty nice," said Lanning.

"It seemed like a new ball wicket and they've got some great opening bowlers and Kim Garth is very skillful, so we had to make sure we knew what we wanted to do. When it was full, we could play. When it was short, we could play. But on that good length, it was a bit tricky. Shafali didn't make it look very difficult."

The captain also praised Kapp's sensational 5-wicket haul, saying: "We've been speaking about hitting that good length. Her natural length is the one that really works on a wicket like this.

"It seemed to cut back a fair bit, but you've got to put it in the right areas to get results. She was excellent today, I love watching her bowl. She's been a little frustrated with her performances so far, I don't think she needed to be but today she got the results."
