The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 Playoffs is scheduled to take place next week at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai after the league stage action ends on March 21.
As a five-team league, only the top three progress to the playoffs and will play their respective fixtures based on where they finish in the WPL 2023 points table. Two matches will be played in the playoff stages - Eliminator and then the all important final.
The first placed team will earn a direct entry into the final, while the second and third placed teams will battle in the lone eliminator to book their spots for the summit clash.
The WPL 2023 is a 5-team tournament in which each team will play the remaining four teams in double round-robin matches to decide who progress to the playoff stages.
A team will play a total of eight matches in the league stage with the Net Run Rate (NRR) also playing a crucial role in deciding the final four if teams are level on points.
Delhi Capitals (12 points from 8 matches) finished on top of the WPL points table thanks to a better Net Run Rate, and as a result earning a direct entry into the final, where they will face the winner of the Eliminator.
Second-placed Mumbai Indians (12 points from 8 matches) will face third-placed UP Warriorz (8 points from 8 matches) in the Eliminator with a spot in the final up for grabs.
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (4 points from 8 matches) and Gujarat Giants (4 points from 8 matches) settled for the fourth and fifth spots respectively.
In the playoffs, second-placed Mumbai Indians eased to a huge-margin victory over third-placed UP Warriorz in the eliminator to book their final meeting against table-toppers Delhi Capitals.
