The first-ever edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 is set to kick off from March 4 and there is a lot of buzz already. Bollywood stars Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon are set to perform on the opening ceremony ahead of the first match at the DY Patil Stadium.They will be joined by popular singer and rapper AP Dhillon
The five-team tournament will witness a total of 20 league stage matches across two venues (DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium) in Mumbai.The team occupying the first place after the league matches will head directly in the final on March 26. The second and third-ranked team will lock horns in an Eliminator on March 24.
The February auction for the WPL 2023 saw as many as 87 players going under the hammer. Each of the five franchises - Mumbai Indians Women, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, Delhi Capitals Women, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz came with a lot of planning and plotting and did their best to form competitive teams of their likes.

Alyssa Healy: Bought for Rs 70 lakh only, the Australian superstar has been named the captain of UP Warriorz. Healy was Australia's second-highest run-scorer at the Women's T20 World Cup 2023. She scored 189 runs in five matches at an average of 47.25. Overall, the wicketkeeper-batter has scored 2489 runs in 141 matches at a strike rate of 126.92. She also has a hundred to her name in the T20I format.
Deepti Sharma: India Women star all-rounder is the costliest buy of the franchise. She was bought for Rs 2.60 crore. The 25-year-old's all-round ability make her a hot commodity in the T20 circuit. In the 92 T20I matches the Agra-born has played, she has scored 941 runs at a strike rate of 106.32. The off-spinner has also picked 102 wickets at an average of 19.46.
Sophie Ecclestone: England's slow left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone was England's leading wicket-taker at the recently concluded Women's T20 World Cup. The 23-year-old picked 11 wickets at an economy of 4.15 in five matches. Overall, she has played 70 T20Is matches and picked 97 wickets at an average of 15.23.
