WPL 2024 Auction: Phoebe Litchfield of Australia became the first player to be sold in the Women's Premier League (WPL) Auction 2024. Litchfield was the first player named in the set number one which consisted of capped batters.

A bidding war started between Gujarat Giants (GG) and UP Warriorz As soon as auctioneer Mallika Sagar announced Phoebe Litchfield's name. The 20-year-old from Australia had placed herself at a base price of Rs 30 lakh.

The two WPL franchises fought neck-to-neck before Gujarat Giants sealed the deal at Rs 1 crore. The deal also meant that Phoebe Litchfield became the first player to be sold in the WPL 2024 auction.

Phoebe Litchfield made his debut for Australia in a T20I match on December 11, 2022. The youngster made her ODI debut in January 2023, while maiden Test match came against England in June.

The left-hand batter has scored 69 runs in one Test, 344 in 11 ODIs at an average of 49.14, and 99 runs in five T20I matches at an average of 49.50 and a strike of 220.00.

In her last T20I match against West Indies on October 5, Phoebe Litchfield blasted 36 runs off 17 balls. The innings consisted of five fours and a six.

In the WPL 2024 auction, a total of 165 players - 104 Indian and 61 overseas players including 15 associate nations representatives - will be up for grabs at the auction. Among the 165 players, 94 players are uncapped and 71 are capped cricketers.
